Plea for Rigby Hall memories

From the archive, first published Thursday 27th Jul 2000.

A WEEK or two ago I started some repair work at Rigby Hall School, in Aston Fields, Bromsgrove. I was pleased to go there because my last visit was 49 years ago, when I was born there. I chatted with the new owner but was surprised to find so much of the history of the building is unrecorded.

Many of your readers will remember it as a children's home in the late fifties and early sixties and, as I can testify, it was also a maternity home at one stage. I am now gathering information about the building with a view to writing a brief history.

I would appreciate any memories and photos (all photographs would be returned after copying). I know it was built in about 1838 and was once the home of Albert Eadie, a Redditch cycle manufacturer and one of the founders of Royal Enfield.

The county archives do not have any photographs of it, which is very sad because it is a beautiful old building.
