THEATRE-goers will be "shocked" by the next production at the Rose's intimate studio.
The 60-seat venue hosts classic 20th century drama Jean Genet's The Maids next week.
Director Trevor Bailey said he could not resist the "naughty, chilling insight of Genet's script" and promised "audiences will be intrigued, gripped, then finally shocked".
The Nonentities' production deals with two sisters, Claire and Solange, who devotedly serve the same mistress and yet resent her power and privilege.
Mr Bailey said: "There is something moving in the characters all the time, slithering like an underwater snake creeping inexorably to the surface.
"The audience get flashes of this nasty, dangerous side to relationships and there's a wonderfully menacing feeling of this coming closer and closer into view - like a monster glimpsed and then finally encountered face-on."
Mrs Taft agreed: "It is a searing production of the dark heart that underpins the face of respect and the show of affection."
She said the production, which runs from Monday until Saturday, November 10, would make the most of the "creepily close" studio space.
