Cinema petition lacking detail

From the archive, first published Thursday 18th Jul 2002.

DISTRICT councillors Mike Oborski and Rachel Lewis have recently issued a leaflet asking the people of Kidderminster to support a cinema in the town.

The leaflet goes on to explain that by law, councillors cannot favour one application over another.

The two applications are then outlined.

The Centros Miller proposal means the demolition of the Piano Building - no further comment is made.

The B&Q proposal is implicitly criticised as it needs a change in planning designation, and the sentence ends with an exclamation mark. I think this speaks volumes.

They then go on to say that they do not want the applications bogged down in detail. Well, as they say, "the devil's in the detail", and the demolition of the Piano Building is hardly a mere detail.

I suggest anybody tempted to sign the petition should give it some thought before they put pen to paper.
